Week 2 - Going Strong

Our second week is over and everything is going strong! We started talking about the letters in our names and we learned about and explored things with our 5 senses. We will continue our "All About Me" theme for the next 2 weeks as we learn about families, friends, feelings, and talents. We are also still focusing a lot on our "strong choices" curriculum which you'll continue to see coming home on the projects we make. As I've mentioned before, my main focus for these first 4 weeks is working on social and emotional skills and values that will help them throughout the year and for the rest of their lives! This week we'll talk about helpfulness and kindness, and then we'll finish off next week with gratitude and curiosity. We've used a lot of books, music, and puppets for these lessons and they've been a lot of fun! I try to help them recognize characters in books that are making strong choices and then try to catch them doing it themselves- they are doing great! We've also been doing a lot of activities that build their fine motor and gross motor skills in order to prepare them for the academic activities that we'll be doing more of soon. There's so much more I could talk about but I'll just let you see what we've been doing through these pictures! (If you ever want to hear more on what we do during the day feel free to ask...I love talking about preschool!) Oh...I almost forgot to mention that we have a couple of new friends. One may be temporary as they are looking to move, but if we're lucky she'll be able to stay! :)

Hannah made a little lesson for whoever was interested - she cut up some apples so they could plant the seeds and let them snack on them while she read the book "The apple pip princess".

We thought it was so cool that when we stepped in the grass crickets would jump up!

A Great First Week!

It has been a wonderful week at preschool! These kiddos have been so good and I've loved having my own kids in the mix helping out. It has been great having so many of our friends from last year back and we've loved adding new friends also!  This week we have been spending a lot of time just getting to know each other and having fun together, but there is also so much learning for these little guys in that process of starting school and making friendships. We are getting used to class routines and learning about our classroom values/expectations (you will see those values on each of their projects that come home for the next few weeks because we will be focusing on one a day). Enjoy the pictures, and thank you again for the opportunity to teach your sweet children!

It looks like he's outside the net...but he's not :)

It's so fun to watch new friendships form

I tried to get the book in these pics so you can see what they're looking at...it's hard to capture the moments we're together as a group but its an important part of our day so I tried.

A cute note...they didn't think we should call this circle time because our rug is a rectangle, not a circle. :)
