December Days in Preschool

Our days in December have been busy and sometimes a little crazy! (December can be a crazy month for kids, but so fun!) We're still working on letters, numbers, shapes, and writing our names, among other things. More importantly we're still working on social behaviors and skills and taking time for lots of learning through play. We also had a lot of special activities in December.  I hope you all enjoy the rest of the month and have a very Merry Christmas! I will miss my preschool friends and look forward to seeing them again on January 8th!
Fun with puzzles

Number bag

Playdough during morning trays

I loved seeing how they all played with it in such an individual way. From adding it to this building toy...

...to cutting out shapes...

...to using it as a home for animals. I love it!

She worked hard at writing words in her journals and was happy that she filled it up

Leaves on the trampoline

Fun on a bike

Active play

I had to take this picture because she had them all so captivated while she was talking about her toys :)

I loved how hard they were concentrating on this activity

They all took their time used such good fine motor skills without even realizing they were working

More fun and lots of social skills work with the trains again

We're pet sitting so the kids have enjoyed playing with the dog

He was showing us the zoo map, it was super cute

Working hard

Concentrating...I love the learning that comes from puzzles

It started to rain so they were really cute calling all their friends to come get under cover with them

Caroling!

I didn't get the picture of them caroling to the fed-ex man but it was super cute, he loved it!

Making wrapping paper

They each gave their present to someone and it was so sweet watching them be so excited for their friend to open their present.

We missed one of our friends who was sick and we hope she feels better soon! We have a book waiting for her!

Love the smile!

From Fall to Winter

Time is flying...We just finished up two mini units- Creatures and Thanksgiving. I was sad our Thanksgiving unit was cut a day short due to the snow day! I'm really excited though for our next unit of "Winter in the Woods/Christmas". From gingerbread house making to hibernating bears, we have some exciting activities and lots of learning planned. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving this week and please know that I am so thankful for each one of your sweet kiddos!
We're looking for signs of Fall on our walk to the park.

We found some cool bugs to look at.

We made it!

...the rest join in.

Cars in the number bag

I don't usually get out this train set because it can be frustrating, however, I learned that although it is a little frustrating, it is fun enough that they're motivated to work through the frustrations, and it provided some really good opportunities to work on the skill of what to do when we encounter something frustrating.  We talked about when they felt frustrated it was because there was a problem that needed to be solved and instead of getting mad, we could figure out what the problem was and how to solve it.  They did so well with that through all sorts of different types of problems- it was awesome to see! We will be getting this out more often.

My son Ethan brought down some of his toys for the kids to play with during the "optional day".

Hannah did the lesson planning and teaching while Eliza assisted.

Painting fish scales with celery

Yummy clay muffins

Ethan had fun on the trampoline with them.
