Hello! My name is Jill, I am a certified teacher, and I teach preschool out of my home. I love it! I earned my degree in elementary education and taught elementary school for 5 years before my first child was born. After he was born I started a home preschool and have continued that for 12 years.
2022-2023 Preschool Plans
Classes: Tuesday and Thursday 9:30-12:00 for children aged 3-5
I mostly follow the Francis Howell School District calendar, and the first day of school will be Thursday, Aug 25th
Cost: Instead of the traditional 10 month payment plan (Aug-May), we will continue with a 9 month plan (Sep-May)
which makes the cost $100/month. There is a $75 registration and supply fee that is due at the time of registration and will hold your child's spot for the upcoming year.
Teachers: Jill Martin and Christen Pierce (we've worked together off and on for many years and are so excited to do it again)
Preschool Program:
* Social and emotional learning- this is a huge part of my program and is integrated into everything we do. I intentionally provide a lot of time for play because of the many valuable learning opportunities it provides, one of the most important being for the purpose of teaching social and emotional skills. I believe a preschool environment provides ideal conditions for social and emotional teaching and practicing.
* Values- I help kids learn to be kind, respectful, helpful, grateful, trustworthy, curious, and patient.
* Theme-based curriculum- - although I do not teach a religious curriculum, I have a desire for children to find joy in the things God has given us. I value nature and our strong and capable bodies so I provide many opportunities for outside play and exploration. I also love helping children find joy in diversity by helping them see the value in every person and learn to work well together. Our themes focus on the seasons, the natural world including animals and habitats (farms, ponds, etc), holidays (any that children in our classroom celebrate), ourselves (all about me!), and the world we live in (community helpers).
* Shapes, colors, numbers and counting, letter recognition, phonics, science activities, pre-writing - I introduce academic skills and provide many opportunities to explore and practice these skills.
* Songs and stories- circle time is also a great time to teach some school skills like sitting down, listening to teachers and classmates, and focusing
* Development of fine motor skills through morning trays, art projects, and sensory play- these skills are so helpful for learning to write.
* Development of gross motor skills through outdoor play and an indoor active play center
If you want to see pictures from the past, scroll through the blog. I won't keep everything the same, and the pictures don't show everything, but I think it is a great way to get an idea of what my preschool is like and the value that is placed on play.
